  i wish this wasn't so awfully contrived and melodramatic. as if meryl streep's character being named clarissa wasn't enough, richard's nickname for her is "mrs. dalloway". every literary parallel and reference is hammered home most ineptly. and for all its melodrama it lacks depth and substance. it mostly only works because of the performances, could’ve done with a better script.
