I struggle explaining how I rate movies.
Top 4 are my favorites I saw in July 2022.
Disclaimer: I was a little inebriated when I saw this & can’t say if that had an impact on this high rating or not. But this was such a Michael Bay movie & I actually mean that as a compliment.
I thought the opening action sequence in this was wicked and the slow-mo gunshots were cool. Had some great soundtrack choices, even pulled on your heart strings a little. Overall, just a fun, mindless Michael Bay entry.

This is easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, quite possibly the absolute worst.
Significant chunks of this movie are basically just soft-core porn, I’m really not exaggerating much there. I almost quit at the very beginning with that corny blue overtone & I should have. Even the title card made this seem like a crappy soap opera. Everything about this screamed lifetime made for tv but even way worse. The editing was so choppy & that interjecting tarot reader…
So I have a feeling this is going to be contrary to a large majority of opinions once the wide release comes, but I fricken loved this. I’m not sure if seeing this on a big screen vs at home had anything to do with it, but this was just a bada** mindless action movie. Damn what an ending. That got me good. I was also really impressed with the use of lighting + shadows & fire as a sort of visual component of the mystery at times. And the performances here also helped carry the mystery but I particularly enjoyed Strathairn & Jenkins’ work here. Wouldn’t have argued against more Dafoe screentime either.
