Disclaimer: I was a little inebriated when I saw this & can’t say if that had an impact on this high rating or not. But this was such a Michael Bay movie & I actually mean that as a compliment.

I thought the opening action sequence in this was wicked and the slow-mo gunshots were cool. Had some great soundtrack choices, even pulled on your heart strings a little. Overall, just a fun, mindless Michael Bay entry.

This is easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, quite possibly the absolute worst.

Significant chunks of this movie are basically just soft-core porn, I’m really not exaggerating much there. I almost quit at the very beginning with that corny blue overtone & I should have. Damn what an ending. That got me good. I was also really impressed with the use of lighting + shadows & fire as a sort of visual component of the mystery at times. And the performances here also helped carry the mystery but I particularly enjoyed Strathairn & Jenkins’ work here. Wouldn’t have argued against more Dafoe screentime either. But at the same time, Mara, Blanchett, & Collette did their damn thing, especially Blanchett. Her work in that final act was tremendous & by…
