I feel sad because I love this book and these characters so much, but this movie really really didn’t work. It felt like it was way too long but also not long enough? This story just can’t be told properly in a movie format.
There wasn’t enough time devoted to establishing a connection between Ansel Elgort’s character, Theo, and everyone else. I didn’t care about his relationship with Boris or Pippa or Kitsey or Hobie. I didn’t even care about his relationship with the painting and that’s supposed to be the heart of this story!
This movie looked really nice and the actors all did the best they could to bring life to it but this story ugh... they really butchered it. I highly recommend checking out the book instead.
