Apart from that, it's a charming Christmastime rom-com that's way better than it needs to be.

I find that the best stand-up comedians (and this is purely preference/taste) always tend to be writers of social observations. They see the exact same things as the rest of us, reinterpret it, and throw it back at the audience in a new light, ideally for laughs.
