Michael Mann's "Suspiria." First viewing in, I believe, close to 20 years. Surprised to find this is a fairly accurate and efficient adaptation of the book—although the Tooth Fairy material in the second half plays the weakest; I don't think Mann had an 'in' to a character who's a serial murderer. But lonely, tortured men with a mission, men like Will Graham, that's a subject Mann knows well. And then there's the visual schema: "Manhunter" is completely awash in style and atmosphere, with Mann and DP Dante Spinotti making expert use of dynamic sunsets, imposing architecture, and stunning wide angles.
