"Midsommar" was one of my least favorite theatrical experiences of 2019, though I'm sure the constant tittering of my audience had something to do with that. Clearly, the film made enough of an impression on me that I spent $15 on the Director's Cut. And indeed I think Ari Aster and Pawel Pogorzelski developed an effective visual language for the film (at least until everything becomes washed out), and Bobby Krlic's score proves powerful. But I can't help but feel this takes an awfully long time to arrive at a destination that will seem a foregone conclusion to anyone with a passing familiarity with the genre.
