The Lair of the White Worm

The Lair of the White Worm ★★★★

A totally (and tonally) unique mash-up of Bram Stoker lore, late 80's horror camp, and director Ken Russell's usual brand of Catholic phantasmagoria. The opening scenes had me convinced I was in for a bad time, but once Amanda Donohoe enters the picture as an immortal seductress who spits hallucinogenic venom, the movie finds its groove and doesn't let up until the credits roll. Definitely a bit silly and a bit ramshackle compared to the polished nature of Russell's previous work, but here that's part of the fun.
