    This review is for Rosario.

I wish this was a happy rewatch of one of my favorite movies, but watching it is the best way I can deal with grief right now. I guess death will always be part of our lives, and cinema for me is the way to cope with it right now; it's my pie, my way of understanding this better.

I have a weird relationship with death, I deflect a lot and try to avoid those…

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

    Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

    The Criterion Challenge 2021
    (3/52) - Directed by Jean-Luc Godard

Am I allowed to not like Godard? Because I don't think I like Godard, his films don't speak to me for the most part, they are just okay and I feel bored at times (I don't want to give up just yet). I think it has to do with his intellectual approach to these subjects which leads to shallowness and forgettable characters (also his lowkey misogyny). I wanted to like…

    The Recorder Exam

You can see a lot of inspiration coming from Edward Yang in this short film (in House of Hummingbird as well), but there's also something deeply personal in the stories of Kim Bora. Is that feeling of loneliness, of not belonging anywhere in the world, of having to struggle while learning to grow up. It's heartbreaking, but there's also tenderness, like a spark of hope and art, of a possible future to come.

I think it's been forever since a movie has struck such a deeply emotional and moral chord in me, and I'm really speechless right now so I won't write a lot. It's a complex movie, definitely divisive, something with a lot of nuance and layers, and a lot of things I really want to analyze on endless rewatches. The music is fantastic, and Carey Mulligan gives one of the best performances I have ever seen.

(I really and urgently need to have a long and in-depth conversation about this movie with someone, so please hit me if you're interested)

Really can't stop thinking about this movie, I almost couldn't sleep the first time I watched it, but had to see it again. It's really good and with a lot of complexity in it, there's no way to define it. I still don't feel capable of making an in-depth review of the film, and I'll have to digest it more.

There are a lot of things I noticed the second time around, and it speaks volumes of Emerald Fennell's directing…
