I've heard this film described as the least marketable in history, while that's clearly hyperbole it's close enough to the truth to be apropos.
Two well directed great performances in service to story that's not particularly entertaining and that fails conjure much that is new. This is unlikely to satisfy genre fans and will leave most normies baffled.
So while there is a place for art that is art for art's sake, I'm not sure that there is enough here that it will be memorable 5 years down the road. Good for Eggers though, I'm glad he got to make the film he wanted.
