    Scream

    ★★★½

Scream is a legacy sequel for the Letterboxd generation.

Brutal kills, stellar new cast, and all the self-referential discourse we love. Tackling toxic fandom and reboot culture is no easy task, and Scream nails it. There’s tons of ridiculous stuff here, as with any good horror movie, but this movie knows exactly what it’s trying to be. Over the top, twisty, and a lot of fun.

Melissa Barrera continues to impress. She’s a perfect lead to take the mantle of…

    Compartment No. 6

    ★★★½

Compartment No. 6 is an intimate, subtle romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously. A languid pace keeps us at arms length, making it take time to let us in, but the film is charming enough to win us over.

Eternals is one of the most ambitious MCU movies yet, but it’s unfortunately fairly messy.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

    ★★★★

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a truly satisfying end to the saga.‬

‪The film is full of pointless Macguffins and cheap fan service, but there’s no denying the powerful emotions here. While it’s a wild and messy ride, it’s so strong in bringing the story together.‬

‪It’s surprising, but still feels like comfort food. It’s lovely and charming and funny and weird. Everything we look for in the Star Wars universe.‬

‪There will be plenty of things to nitpick, but at bare minimum this film should give Star Wars fans what they want.‬

    ‪I loved it.‬
