The Lair of the White Worm

The Lair of the White Worm ★★★★

Ken Russell’s back at it with those batty nuns! This time, instead of worshipping Oliver Reed, they’re worshipping some kind of worm/snake god that possesses some kind of vampiric qualities - the film is based on a Bram Stoker novel, afterall. While the plot’s a bit haphazard, the film has enough of a cheeky charm to make up for even its most glaring issues. Seeing Hugh Grant in one of his early roles is a real treat, but this is really Amanda Donohoe’s film. Her Lady Sylvia is like a whole different species of woman, and I mean that quite literally.
