hugo’s review published on Letterboxd:
In a genre that’s become stale, safe and trite with characters that lack anything resembling humanity or depth, Watchmen comes in less like a breath of fresh air and more like a fucking tornado. An amoral political deconstruction of modern society (mostly concerning the US) portrayed through a story of people affected by their past trauma and how they decide to deal, or not deal, with it. A sequel that understands it’s source material in a way that actually enhances the original by continuing the universe in a completely believable direction. A handful of episodes here are flawless in execution but it’s the timing of it’s release and powerful prophetic storytelling that blew me away both times I watched it. “Who watches the Watchmen?” Hopefully fucking everybody because we won’t see something like this for a while.
