The Bride of Frankenstein

The Bride of Frankenstein ★★★★

The sequel to 1931's Frankenstein is titled The Bride of Frankenstein and was released 4 years after the first film. This feature was once again directed by James Whale and Colin Clive and Boris Karloff once again returned to reprise their roles as Dr. Henry Frankenstein and Frankenstein's monster.

This is a lot funner and heartfelt than the first but the first was scarier and I loved the atmosphere more in the first. I think I liked this film more than the first feature but this also made me appreciate the atmosphere, scenes, and horror elements from the original more. So much so that I ended up updating Frankenstein from a 3.5 to 4.

I'd say this sequel is overall better, more fun, and has more heart but both films are very close in quality. They're about the same quality but I liked this slightly more. I'm quite excited to watch James Whale's two other famous films The Old Dark House and The Invisible Man. Welp, I had two double features today. That's cool.

Horrific October 2020
