I didn't know what I was missing when I passed up on Upgrade a few years ago in theaters.
Upgrade takes on the near distant future with deadpan sharpness, surprisingly violent effects, and interesting characters that reflect on our own reliant relationship with technology. The real impact comes from the humanity than the technology with the action being a great accessory.
Logan Marshall-Green is great. I thought it was Tom Hardy this whole time. Embarrassing. He adds something extra that without him the film might’ve lost a lot of it’s unexpected charm. Ultimately, Upgrade is a little predictable but everything is done so well that I just wanted to turn off my criticisms and enjoy the action. A well crafted science fiction film with compelling futuristic concepts that is well worth your time.
Remind me never to get a Tesla. Oh wait, I’m a broke hoe.
