Ian Curran’s review published on Letterboxd:
A bubblegum mash up of thematically richer movies such as Her, The Truman Show, and Stranger than Fiction.
Much like a sugary treat it provides us with instant gratification but is ultimately empty, and corrosive if you spend enough time in it.
There’s also the Ryan Reynolds problem. As a Guy I find him charming, as an actor I find him confusing. He has a leading mans face but his charisma is frequently buried under his sarcastic shtick, or in the case of this movie, a forced optimism.
Reynolds has a knack for picking projects that play to his strengths by not pushing him too hard. Unfortunately it results in charming performances in forgettable movies.
