Ian Curran’s review published on Letterboxd:
” The horror genre was destroyed by sequels.”
Released less than a year after the genre redefining original, this equally inventive and satirical horror movie doesn’t get the credit it deserves.
As with most sequels everything is ratcheted up to 💯, including the meta-commentary. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the opening scene.
We watch a movie representation of the first movie which provides a great framing device to explore issues of race in the horror genre, as well as visualising the discrepancies between movie representations of ‘real life’ events.
And don’t get me started on the film class discussion about sequels… sign me up!
