I’m so glad I got to see this movie in a theater, because that was an awesome experience

It felt like the first 25 minutes of plot were played on 1.25x speed, I would have preferred a bit of a slow burn and leaning into the unease of something being wrong than immediately landing on the shark. Also, “do you want to get drunk and fool around” five minutes after somebody died is a *bit* of tonal whiplash. 

But there’s a reason this movie is studied to this day. Some of the shots really impressed me, the famous dolly zoom of course and Quint on the bow of his ship especially. The back half of this movie is beautifully paced and the silent tension is built really well. The mayoral conflict offered better themes than I remembered, Spielberg masterclass
