[Seen on 70mm and with DTS sound]
Absolutely flawless beginning and ending, but the parts in between are just good I guess.
2001: A Space Odyssey can definitely be added to my favorite theater experiences. Seeing it on the glorious (and supposedly rare?) 70mm is just utterly stunning and with the magnificent score blaring in my ears, I was loving the first 30 minutes again!
Unfortunately, it goes a little downhill after that though. From a filmmaking perspective 2001 stays flawless, but from a story perspective, it becomes (dear I say it?) boring and a bit repetitive.
But luckily, the last 30 minutes are just wonderful again. Truly transfixing with the clarity 70mm brings and a sequence of shots I have only seen done once again with The Tree of Life (which is the better one of course...).
Dutch people reading this: PLEASE go and see it at EYE! It is probably one of the only chances you get to see it on 70mm.
