Before Midnight

Before Midnight ★★★★

This one suffers from being a bit too artificial in that the arguments kind of come out of nowhere (as opposed to the car sequence in "Before Sunset", which was an understandable progression). However, when it clicks, it soars: these characters have grown but they haven't grown up, and to see a relationship which we were convinced was perfect reveal its increasing cracks makes for an explosive an emotional end which renders the comparatively weaker earlier segments almost irrelevant (I like the car trip very much, but the lunch sequence when people other than Jesse and Celine contemplate life out loud is incongruous to the rest of the series and simply doesn't work).
