Marianna Neal’s review published on Letterboxd:
If “unique” is what you’re looking for, Annette just might be the film for you. Leos Carax is the perfect eccentric storytelling match for the Sparks, who wrote the music, the story, and co-wrote the screenplay with Carax. It’s hard to imagine this musical being made by anyone else. Is it a love story? Or a tragedy? Or magical realism? Social commentary? It’s all of the above and, while it may not come together as cohesively as one would hope, it’s a bizarre film none of its viewers are likely to forget.
P.S.: the star rating is probably going to change after a second viewing, forever processing this film.
