No one but Taika Waititi could have made this film. It’s absolutely gorgeous in a Moonrise Kingdom-meets-Nazi-Germany sort of way. But also, it’s very clear that Taika had a significantly larger budget than on his previous non-Marvel films.
The cast was lovely, though I am sad that Rachel House wasn’t here. I loved Sam Rockwell (wow, what a surprise), thought Thomasin McKenzie was a dear, and found Scarlett Johansson more warm and tender and funny than I imagined possible.
I never knew just how comical German Shepherds could be, and I think that maybe this whole film was written just for that beautifully hilarious moment.
To date, my favorite film of 2019.
