Zach Evans’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is a movie about space. It is maybe the best ever at creating a story through what is not shown. The romantic tension, the missed connections, the found connections that come at the wrong time, everything is expertly constructed to keep you wanting more, but knowing that you and the characters can never have it. It is either socially forbidden or it is gone, in the past. This film is fleeting, just like the love between the characters. In a year or two its poignance may be gone, so watch it while it will still have an effect on you. Both Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung are as good as they have ever been. Wong Kar-Wai is my favorite director.
