Annette ★★★★★

If I can say something controversial yet brave: Annette is one of the best movies of the year. It's like the movie equivalent of laughter turning into tears.

The sheer audacity of the thing. It just keeps on outdoing itself in both size, scale and egotistical lunacy. I have no choice but to respect & love it. The relationship between Henry and Ann highlights the thin line between love and pain. It's as if those are ideas are interchangeable: Ann laughs as she gives birth & Henry's stand-up routine is melancholic. The music had me creasing at parts; I think Sparks really have a great sense of humour.

Unlike anything I have ever seen! I already want to see it again. However, I would not like to be left alone in the same room as Baby Annette; she looks like she eats souls.
