The Double Life of Véronique

The Double Life of Véronique ★★★★★

More of a spiritual, fantastical work than Kieślowski‘s usual morality-driven narratives. Irène Jacob is one of the greatest actors of all time. Her face and eyes work in concert as an emotion machine. She pulled double duty in this film, of course, and crammed to learn all of her Polish lines in a very short time, although she didn’t speak the language. I will be seeking out all of her work. In its often green-tinted hues, this film was absolutely beautiful—in more than just its eye-pleasing visuals, though—in every possible way. Krzysztof Kieślowski does not miss.
