Masculin Féminin

Masculin Féminin ★★★★½

And my Godard kick continues! I've enjoyed all the Godard I've seen recently way more than the stuff I saw in High School which tells me it's time to revisit those movies. This one was a lot of fun. The entire movie felt like a masterclass on information/reaction coverage and editing between two people talking. Loved the random violence, the outrage, the flirting, the men acting shitty (Léaud's character here feels like a predecessor to his character in The Mother and the Whore), the femme fatales, the pop music and Bardot's cameo. I'm sure there's a lot to this I didn't pick on upon first viewings but Godard's exploration of relationships and culture is fascinating. The scene in the kitchen where one character is explaining why she's not interested in the other is a highlight for me.
