The 70mm footage, the sound design, the music, the editing, the human endeavour. Everything.
Young and old in the cinema were cheering and gasping throughout.
A truly inspirational feat of filmmaking.
Contrary to popular opinion, Wahlberg isn't a terrible actor. But he's pretty awful in this. (Unless maybe he's purposely playing it like how a Z list actor might act in a Z movie)
This isn't a bad movie. It's daft and silly and is all over the place. But it doesn't cease to be entertaining.
It's a bit 50s Day or The Triffids and I think it knows what it is.
This isn't really a sci fi movie. And that's fine. It's more or a coming of age road movie drama. The kid actor was great. The Irish guy who played his step brother was also good. And the stripper lady with a heart of gold did some good acting . Franco was distracting and I kind of wished it was anyone else playing his part. There was something about a gun and maybe there was a time travel thing I dunno. Mogwai did the soundtrack and they are amazing. If you ever see them play live, bring some ear protectors. Cause that shit is LOUD.
I skipped school 20 years ago so I could go and watch this movie on the afternoon it was released.
Loved it at the time and I still do.
Yeah it's not without its faults and has weird shifts in tone and pacing but you can say the same about any film that's simultaneously aimed at kids and middle aged nerds.
