Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Hunt for the Wilderpeople ★★★★

I wasn't planning on watching this in theatres, but the enthusiasm of a friend to see it again, the fact that it's been playing at my local theatre for over four months and a remarkable 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes persuaded me. That score makes perfect sense to me. It seems almost impossible to me that someone could dislike this movie. Though imperfect, it's excellent humour, heartfelt story, technical proficiency and a huge array of quirky, loveable characters ensures a really easy watch. Julian Dennison is mostly fantastic and always hilarious, able to to carry the comedic and dramatic weight of entire scenes with an embarrassing level of ease ("SHIT! JUST! GOT! REAL!" *fires gun*). Sam Neil's more restrained performance is similarly strong, and everyone in the supporting cast offers some really nice work. I don't know if I could call it a great film, but I really did love it. Majestical.
