The Double Life of Véronique

The Double Life of Véronique ★★★★½

Amongst all the mirroring shrouded in a dream arises a piercing melancholy. The emptiness is buried by curiosity, until its lingering breaks the submersion. Jacob isn’t playing two characters, she's the strand of the soul and its desire for internal comfort. If anything cements Kieślowski as a genius, it’s his beautifully sensitive abstraction of blurred identity because of how it evokes the most ambiguous of insecurities that remain perplexingly true to life.
