about the south's refusal to be captured, probably
(need to rewatch, not done with this one yet)
Farley Granger is so stiff (like, LMAO). but you know what’s even more stiff when he comes on screen? 😔
epitome of the idea that the ‘60s and ‘70s were about liberation, rather than today’s fight for equality. would never be done today!! radical in its naked joy at its white villains’ plight, staging the story as a flashback from a rousing funeral for the racist Ol Cap’n.
so much fun and the music feels lively and contemporary. everyone feels like a real person (knows what sex is; has experienced anger). the staging of “First Thing Monday Mornin’” is ridiculously powerful.
Melba Moore.
Intro by Sean Durkin, followed by a Q&A with Durkin, Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Stanley Simons and Maura Tierney
absolutely insane there was a FIFTH wrestler brother who also met a tragic end that was cut for time, but "Academy Award winner Zac Efron" sounds real nice
