    I grew up on Roald Dahl and I wanted to be Roald Dahl. He was the first children's author who captivated me with his creativity and wit. Before I got into films, I said I wanted to be an author, and master the same effect on others. My Dad misheard me and thought I said I wanted to be 'awful', which was mildly prescient.

    I've always been a fan of Michael J. Fox. His effortless charm is a feel-good balm. I never watched his TV shows so my fandom came primarily from my childhood idolization of Marty McFly, something I'm sure I have in common with many others.     The bleakest and most intense film Wes has ever made. I couldn't have taken another five minutes.

    I've been coming to terms with the lingering damage my childhood bullies did to me. I had buried it down and I only started talking about it for the first time recently. It was never anything as severe as what's depicted in the film, but there's a catharsis here in the mere act of storytelling that I found very affecting. It tore my heart to shreds.
