    The Beyond

Week three of horror film Fridays ( I know I haven't logged my horror watches as this before but we move)

With a film that is 70% crash zooms and whip pans, the horror is lacking and at times seems very very VERY confused. It honestly felt like there was two different directors on this film. This was much better than what I expected. Millie gives a fun energetic portrayal of a niche unknown character that I think is aspirational for young girls. I found the 12 rating a bit strange as the tone of the film was more aimed at younger people. I did think that the ending was kinda rushed and felt like they didn't know where to go with the mother storyline so just cut it off but it was a fun watch

I love this sub-genre of movies, one where the narrative is practically nonsensical and terrifying and yet draws you in from the start. Flooded with long scenes of dialogue characters weave into our leads life and only deepen the confusion. If you’ve ever read one of Murakami’s magical realism novels, such a the wind up bird chronicle, you will definitely appreciate and enjoy this.
