Jackson Hays’s review published on Letterboxd:
It’s about damn time to see a new movie, after endless busy school schedule after another. Parasite is a perfect movie to watch as my fruit of labor.
Parasite has me blown away, stuck to my seat, grabbing the arm seats so tight, and holding in my urine because I don’t want to miss a single scene. Honestly I thought I was going to get overhyped but man was it better than I expected.
Going into Parasite blind is the best way to go. If you don’t know a single thing about the story, plot, or even concept, use it to your advantage witnessing this masterpiece. All I can say about the story without spoiling anything, it is bonkers! All of the characters have great depth and personalities. The stakes feels incredibly real knowing the characters’ motivation and context. The plot keeps building itself, so it’s never boring.
The performances are fantastic, excellent music, great fast paced editing, phenomenal sound mixing, and by god the cinematography is on a whole another level of being gorgeous.
Honestly I haven’t seen a ton of films by Bong Joon Ho. Thanks to Parasite, I’m going to watch more and more films from him.
