    Bravely conducts a radical experiment: what if Top Gun (1986) was good?

    The first scene with Connelly at her bar is Hollywood melodrama at its finest. Reminded me almost of vintage Cameron Crowe, or Only Angels Have Wings; the intersecting tension of the new pilots sizing each other up, Connelly ringing the bell, the new pilots noticing Cruise, Teller walking in and not noticing him, Connelly giving Cruise (and the camera) googly-eyes throughout.     Peter Bogdanovich cried during the Q&A when he started talking about Dorothy Stratten and how even more of the cast is dead as well now, and it felt like such a personal moment I didn’t deserve to be there for. It’s sad that a movie so joyous and effervescent can have such negative connotations for anyone, let alone the guy who wrote and directed it.

    On a lighter note, I’m pretty sure Greta Gerwig in Mistress America is based, or at the very least styled on Colleen Camp in this.
