This is a beautiful mess. It is one of the most atmospheric films that i have seen for a while, yet, it doesn’t really know what it wants to be. With nuances of a coming of age story riding on the back-bone of a suspense thriller, Super Dark Times is pulled in two seperate directions, one of “Peaks of Being a Wallflower” and the other, a grounded “It Follows”. And that’s why I kinda love it. The confusion of the film creates confusion for the audience, a good confusion, one that only adds to the experience. It’s impactful, engaging, and though not unique, Super Dark Times meticulously leaves you in a ditch of comforting decay.
