Got out of the theater over an hour ago and the adrenaline still hasn’t died down. The Safdies are two of the best working directors today, and the fact that there are three separate audiences, Safdie Brothers fans, Adam Sandler fans, basketball fans, all gathered together to watch one film and simultaneously all be blown away by it, speaks volume of their capabilities as filmmakers. Officially dethroned The Lighthouse as my favorite film of the year. Even with all the hype surrounding it, as well as my own personal expectations, I was still completely, totally, and utterly floored.
See it. See it now. See it in the biggest theater you can, on the biggest screen, with the biggest audience possible. Oscar. For. Sandman.
