Days of Heaven

Days of Heaven ★★★½

At some point I thought Malick was more interested in shooting takes of birds, lizards and locust. And that's fine by me so long as it fits the film, but "Days of heaven" truly is at odds with itself, as it tries to be a character-driven spiritual successor to "Badlands" and a visually-inspired mood piece about early 20th century America all at the same time, which results in the finished product seeming tonally inconsistent at the very least.

But it would be disingenuous of me, if I failed to acknowledge the stunning (and most likely dangerous to execute) set piece with the crop fire, which is an instance of absolutely beautiful cinematography.
