the smiths: so what sort of creative vision do you have for the music video?
derek jarman: yes
But for real doe. First time watching this all the way through and it's so tacky but in the best way possible.
The editing was so expressive and blue screen effects were dodgy (probably for the time), but honestly Jarman gets some interesting symbolism/montages using the two techniques. Also, the camerawork is quite 'in your face' yet it just works with the whole creative mess of the video.
Love The Smiths, and definitely wouldn't have liked this video as much if not for their music.
Overall, such a mad music video for The Smiths yet there is definitely something so quintessentially 80s Britain about this video that it kinda works with their image and voice.
