James’s review published on Letterboxd:
Maybe in a different universe, there's a version of myself that loves this film. Probably even in THIS universe, when I was in high school or college, I would have loved this and judged everyone else around me for not "getting it."
But surely it's not just a matter of age, because I still find myself embracing "weird" films that are this creative, unconventional, and "everything but the kitchen sink" audacious. There's part of me that can't help but cheer on this film for swinging for the fences, even if it happened to result in a strike-out rather than a home-run for me personally. It makes me happy to know it's brought so much joy, inspiration, laughter, and meaning to so many viewers.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen for me, for whatever reasons, at least not this time or this universe. And because the film's inspiring closing message is still fresh in my mind (and one with which I'd generally agree anyways), tonight I'll choose kindness and just leave it at that.
