The Ice Storm

The Ice Storm ★★★★½

“The Ice Storm” is the perfect 1970’s drama – a sincere piece of class and character. Extricating the middle-class America and all its associated exhaustions and labour, Ang Lee demonstrates a commendable picture, whose realism captures the audience from start to finish. The fabled title quickly becomes an afterthought as you are drawn into the vehicle of domestic struggles exhibited through the characters every day, comfortably ignoring the to-be-metaphor that hovers towards the conclusion. In the simplest terms, it’s a sad work – a piece that thrives in relating the audience to their own private struggles, and oh to how successfully this is achieved.

Overall, it’s a different piece to most other Lee works, but one that I intend to return to again with much enthusiasm.
