“The only thing I do know is that we have to be kind. Please, be kind. Especially when we don’t know what’s going on.”

I was FINALLY able to watch this tonight and Im kicking myself for not watching it in the theater. I absolutely just floored by what I just watched. Such a gorgeous, fun, entertaining, and heartfelt film that had me hooked from start to finish.

Every single cast member was so stunning, especially Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn. She plays such a complex character with such grace and she had my full attention the entire runtime. Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu were so wonderful as well and gave us everything with their performances. Jamie Lee also of course.

The camerawork and cinematography in this film blew me away as well. The fight scenes, the multiverse, the verse jumps, the music, all of it was fantastic. I love how insane it got too with the humor and I loved it. The raccoon had me cackling every time something about it happened on screen, the fight scene with the butt plugs absolutely sent me, and the hot dog fingers? Insane but I loved it.

Lastly, I want to talk about the emotional aspects of this film because wow was this an emotional rollercoaster. I did not expect it to effect me so hard but it really got me by the end. My dad and I had a similar relationship until about 3 years ago, so seeing that relationship put to screen was so raw. The heartache, the belittling, never feeling good enough, but also the way trauma goes through generations. Parents often pass down their traumatic experiences and pain to their kids and sometimes don’t even realize they’re doing it. People lash out because they’re hurting and it’s not right but it happens. We’re taught to just deal with it and move on. Never addressing it. That was my exact relationship with my dad. Realizing that you’re both hurting from the same things and experiences was so emotional yet cathartic to watch.  Learning to uplift your kids the way that you never got uplifted or heard is so important. Accept your kids and don’t try to make them fit a mold you want them to be in.

The balance that everything, yet nothing matters. To be content with where you are and what you have, yet try everyday to be better. To be kind. What a beautiful film.
