I had to rewatch this after listening to the audiobook pretty recently. It’s interesting to see how certain characters interact with each other differently, I can’t help but feel like the movie may actually be better in this case. There are things I appreciate about the book, the divide between full time residents of Amity and summer vacationers is examined to a greater extent. The build up may be more thorough in the book and characters may be developed a bit better, but once we get out onto the sea and are hunting that fish, the dynamic between Brody, Hooper and Quint seems to work better than in the book.
The small changes made for the movie compliment Spielberg’s sensibilities, and I dig it. One of my favorite Spielberg flicks.. as I’m not crazy about, but certainly appreciate, the guy. I find myself enjoying projects he’s produced more than the movies he’s made himself.
