A disturbing treasure chest of haunting, hallucinatory imagery and thick, evocative atmosphere, I love the way THE LIGHTHOUSE looks and feels and I admire the 100% all-in performances by Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson so much that it makes up a lot for the fact that I wish there was a stronger narrative pull. In short, I loved getting lost in the creepy, Lovecraft-ian world this film creates, but I wish I had cared more about what was HAPPENING (or at least what seemed to be).
I am forever grateful that movies like this exist (and at the multiplex, no less!!!) For now it's a "B" but there might be room to move with repeat viewings.
