This is Film #5/30 from my Ramadan 2021: Exploring the Islamic World challenge. I realized while doing my challenge last month that I hadn’t seen too many films that depict Islamic culture, or are set in Muslim-majority environments. With Ramadan coming up, I thought it would be a good excuse to learn more about the diversity of Islam around the globe by seeing 30 films from 30 different countries for each day of the holy month.

on the way back in the subway i overheard two students talking about the movie and praising how well they were able to recreate the 90s by not making it look too modern. how they were able to show well what a "shitty" place it was to live in. my heart sank because that's just how the country looks today.
