    The Warriors 1979

it’s a testament to Hill as a filmmaker in every regard that his original vision feels more like a comic book in motion than any bogus digital interstitials would when added decades later — and unlike what passes for officially sanctioned comic book movies now, the characters here (as cartoonish as some of them may be) feel like living, breathing people facing the end of the(ir) world; it’s simultaneously apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic, rendering the city as a dangerous, constantly evolving place that seems entirely disconnected from any country it may be a part of

A little bloodletting on the slate.

One of the greatest things about this movie, and what really sets it apart for me, is that the monster stays in your imagination. It allows the viewer to fill in the gaps then stalks them with their own fear.

The universal fear of the unknown is what’s so scary; not knowing where you are, not knowing who you can trust, not knowing if you’ll make it out alive.

I’m scared to close my eyes and I’m scared to open them.

Still the best film of the 21st Century. Blows me away by its competence everytime.

Part thriller. Part drama. Part procedural. Part actioner.

And the editing blows me away. And the performances blow me away. And the direction blows me away.

I love it during all the chaos the three or four people in different locations that finally take charge of the situation as best they can. It's so empowering and haunting and exciting and dreadful. The gamut of emotions throughout this movie is something I've never experienced in any film prior or since.

    It's perfect.

Mullet space cop battles sporting goods store predator with a lightsaber. 1995 direct-to-local cable curiosity from Southern Ontario casts heavily accented townies in an intergalactic villain chase that's overstuffed with '90s signifiers like crude CGI, fingerless gloves, wraparound sunglasses, Coors Slo-Pitch jerseys, keyboard-led bar bands. A regional film treat.
