Carrie

Carrie ★★★

Hooptober 9 Goes to Hell: The Final Friday: #22

They tend to remake good movies rather than the bad ones, which always seems like a strange decision to me. The original Carrie is a classic, and with a remake you’d hope it’d at least try to tell the story differently just to bring something new to the table. Unfortunately, this film does no such thing. It’s not awful, but it’s a rehash of the original that I doubt many will return to after seeing it once.

Updating it to modern day does little to impact the plot, and the use of CGI seems massively underutilised considering they really could’ve pushed the boat out to make the finale bigger and better than the 1976 film. Chloë Grace Moretz does a fine job, but I thought her acting was a little rough in the last third of the film. Carrie is an easy watch and definitely not boring, it just doesn’t do anything new or interesting with Stephen King’s source material.
