Spider-Man: Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home ★★★½

It’s like this movie was made for me. I, too, am from New York. I, too, traveled to Italy and France with my high school during my Junior year. I, too, desperately tried to get my crush to notice me while walking through the canals in Venice and Carnival in France. I, too, climbed everything in sight because I thought I was a parkour prodigy. I, too… am Spider-Man?

With all of that in mind, although I do find much of the action in the first two acts very underwhelming and inconsequential, this movie really makes me reminiscent. Homecoming and Far From Home are often compared to classic John Hughes movies and that comparison couldn’t be more true here. John Hughes made smart and fun hang out films that could be enjoyed by all, but particularly by those who grew up in that generation. While I don’t necessarily think that Far From Home should be described as smart or revered in the same way as movies like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, I will undoubtedly return to this movie throughout my lifetime in search of nostalgia. Now give me No Way Home!
