This is a hard film to talk about without spoiling, but I'll give it a try. David Fincher is one of my all time favorite directors, so as soon as this film was announced I was looking forward to it. Then the first trailer was released and I was even more excited. Then the reviews started coming out and everyone was loving and I was dying to see it at this point. I'm very happy to say that it lived up to my high expectations and even surpassed them. Gone Girl is truly an amazing film.

Fincher's direction is up to the usual greatness here and it has that Fincher look to it which I love. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross provide yet another fantastic score as they have done on previous Fincher films. The acting was also amazing all around. Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Carrie Coon, and Kim Dickens all provide great performances. Rosamund Pike has received massive acclaim for this film and with reason, she was brilliant.

Ben Affleck gets a lot of hate, but to this point I've liked him in everything I've seen. Gone Girl is no different. He was fantastic. Honestly it's one of the best performances of the year for me. Both he and Pike were equally great. Everyone else in the smaller roles did a good job too. At first I was really liking the film, but then something happened a good while in and from there on it kept getting better and better.

Gone Girl is full of shocking twists and turns throughout and it kept me guessing to the very end. I was hooked! The movie may be long, but it had my attention throughout. It isn't just a dark twisted thriller though. It also has many moments of humor that worked very well and didn't distract from the story. It also works very well as a social commentary of the media. The way the media is portrayed is disturbing, but sadly true. People are easily swayed and eat up everything they see.

Gone Girl is a film that gets better the more you think about it, and trust me, there is a lot to think about. I can't wait to see it again. Some people have criticized the ending, but I loved it. I thought it was the perfect way to end it. As I was walking out of the theater I heard a guy say: "I honestly feel stupider after watching that show." I'm not sure what he's talking about. Gone Girl is twisted, wonderfully acted, funny, and just a great movie overall. It just edged out Boyhood to become my new favorite of 2014. 9/10

*There's one moment (if you've seen it you'll know what part I mean) that got a lot of gasps from the audience. It was pretty fucking crazy! Fincher has done it again!
