    Crawl

every summer needs at least one good creature feature, and happy to report that Crawl delivers for 2019.

This knows what we're here for, and delivers (in a very taunt 87 minutes no less). Aims for summer creature schlock greatness and is only undone by an abrupt ending and some uneven cgi but even still, I think that I'll try to catch this again in theaters before August hits.

Functions great as a spidey movie, just okay as a post-Endgame MCU flick.

Holland's still lovely, and this cleverly flips the previous beats we've seen with his version of the hero...now looking to stay neighborhood level and hold onto his life in a John Hughes movie. He literally spends 2/3rds of this telling the Avengers to pound sand so he can act on ~hormones~. For that alone I'd love this. Then they nail most of the high school jokes and get Mysterio right, so I'm happy to overlook some MCU-bs.

    And yes, Gyllenhaal is daddy.

impressed by how well this balances the sheer absurdity of the Temple's stunts with some timely commentary on ~Important~ things, without losing sight of either.

Screened along with a post-film discussion with Lucien Greaves, who was just as affable as he comes across on screen.
