watched in obvious anticipation of villeneuve's update & a newfound fascination with lynch's filmography. i never read frank herbert's original novel (even tho it's been sitting on my bookshelf for almost a year now) so i can't speak to dune's narrative allegiance to the original but all ik is that this was an absolute shitshow lol. i get that this is a byproduct of studio mandation but sometimes these things don't even turn out that bad (alien³ gang wya). between the constant war of commercial sanction and filmmaker trying to do the best he can, the fact that dune is 95% exposition, and just the overall disarray of this whole affair there's absolutely nothing to be gained from this. i wrote down like twenty lines that had me dying but i think the best one (obviously out of context) is when this royal figure shouts completely unironically "bring me that fat floating man!" i wish it was a joke but no, there really is a fat guy in this movie that floats around. and in the end he gets eaten by a giant slug.
