For the most part, I enjoyed Promising Young Woman. I think, technically, the film is great. There are some incredibly beautiful shots, I loved the score and I think the casting is brilliant. Carey Mulligan is phenomenal in this but that’s no surprise - she’s beyond talented. I also loved the whole feminine, bubbly aesthetic of the film and the soundtrack is so so good.
I really liked where this was going but I personally wish it had ended differently. I did get a thrill when Ryan’s phone went off and the ominous three dots showed up. However, I didn’t like how the police showed up right on time to tie everything up, I feel like it went against what the film was trying to say about the justice system and how it treats these cases but I also would’ve been insanely angry if Al had gotten away with Cassie’s murder along with everything else so I definitely feel conflicted. I also really wish Cassie hadn’t died. I had seen a spoiler for that a long time ago and I just felt so much dread throughout knowing it was going to happen.
I think I really need to watch this again to see how I really feel but right now I think I definitely liked it more than anything.
